FRC issues changes to UK taxonomy

The update includes changes to the FRC taxonomy suite, charities taxonomy, and Irish taxonomy.

The 2026 UK Taxonomy Suite, issued by the UK Financial Reporting Council (FRC), reflects changes to the regulator’s taxonomy suite, charities taxonomy, and Irish taxonomy. It also incorporates documentation, supporting documents, presentation sheets highlighting the changes compared to the previous version of the taxonomies, and release notes.

The update follows a consultation from the FRC on a draft of the taxonomies earlier this summer. Other key amendments include additional, updated, and removed features to support the UK Endorsement Board’s endorsed amendments to IFRS 7 and amendments to UK Financial Reporting Standards (FRED 85) and improve the availability and clarity of audit report disclosures.

According to a news release, the FRC strongly advises users to read the changelog.pdf file in the taxonomy suite zip folder download, which gives substantially more detail on the changes for this year and supports the use of the Excel mapping files.

Though public consultation is closed, the release said, it is possible to comment to the XBRL taxonomies team via the FRC’s feedback tool, Yeti. Comments can also be submitted by email to XBRL@frc.org.uk.
